"The Conversion of the Jews" and "Angel Levine"

These two stories lead the reader to believe religion is something which is hard to understand and full of questions. In "The Conversion of Jews" Ozzie was not getting sufficient answers from his elders. They grew tired of his plethora of questions and even hit him! Ozzie was not out of line, he is young and religion is a confusing concept. It requires faith and that is something which is not easily grasped. In the story, it seemed understanding religion gave you a certain power. One in which you considered yourself better than others. You could see this at the end when Ozzie used his "power" to make the audience do things.

In "Angel Levine" Manischevitz questions why he, a faithful follower is being punished. He asks why so many problems had to be bestowed upon him? Earlier in is life one of these problems could have reminded him to be more faithful and corrected his path, but they are thrown upon him all at once. He also questions whether Levine is an angel because he has no wings, can not perform miracles, and is black. It may signify that answers come in all different packages, we just have to believe. Manischevitz is not out of line in asking so many questions, just like Ozzie wasn't either. In the end, Manischevitz remained faithful to his God until even though he was going through so many problems. Faith is what he had and believed in.
